Evelyn R. (Urbassik) Bunja

BUNJA – Evelyn R., 88, of Johnstown died February 4, 2018, at Memorial Medical Center. Born December 24, 1929, in Johnstown the daughter of Joseph and Sophia (Vilkovszky) Urbassik. Preceded in death by her parents; husband, Harry A. Bunja; brothers: Frank, Vincent, and Edward Urbassik; and sisters: Gertrude Grimme; and Magdaline Grimme. She is survived by her children: Patricia A., Schriver, Pittsburgh; Robert H., married to Patricia A. (Harmel) Bunja, Baltimore; and Bernice Bunja, Johnstown; 2 grandchildren: 2 great-grandchildren; and brother, Joseph Urbassik, KY. Evelyn graduated from Johnstown High School. After graduation, she became an LPN and worked at Memorial Hospital. She then got her Bachelor of Arts Degree at LaRoche College in Pittsburgh and become an X-Ray Technician. Evelyn taught X-Ray Technology at Somerset Hospital and was responsible for getting their lab up and running. Later, she earned her Real Estate License and sold many houses. Evelyn loved her Cockapoo named Tom. She enjoyed candy making, ceramics, baking and cooking, sewing and gardening. She also liked to decorate her home for all the seasons and holidays and take bus trips to the casinos. She traveled to Ohio, Michigan and Maryland to visit with family. Evelyn was a member of St. Benedict Catholic Church where she was active, especially with the chicken and waffle dinners. She was also an avid Pittsburgh Steeler and Pirates fan. The family would like to thank the staff and all her friends at the Villa for the many kindnesses they have shown to Evelyn during her time there. Friends will be received from 3-8 p.m. Friday at the FRANCIS G. OZOG FUNERAL HOME, Inc., 710 Broad Street, where vigil service will be held. Funeral Mass will be held 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Benedict Catholic Church, Fr. David S. Peles Officiating. In lieu of flowers the family suggests that memorial donations be directed to the American Heart Association, 500 5455 North High Street Columbus, OH 43214, in memory of Evelyn.
