Theresa M. "Tessie" (Hodos) Canary

CANARY – Theresa M. “Tessie”, 89, of Johnstown, died March 3, 2024, at Heritage Ridge Senior Living following a brief illness. Born September 19, 1934, in Johnstown, the daughter of Martin J. and Elizabeth P. (Cernak) Hodos. Preceded in death by her parents; husband, David Canary; sisters Betty Sestrich and Mary Wallace; and brothers, Martin, Joseph, and John Hodos. She is survived by her sons, Brian Canary and Joseph Canary; daughter-in-law Silvia (Sinclair); and sisters-in-law Theresa (Galasso) and Charlene (Dimm). Also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Theresa was a member of the former St. Stephen’s and St. Rochus Catholic Parishes where she was a member of the Ladies Guild.  She retired from Bestform where she worked for many years; she was also the proprietor of the former Laffey’s Tavern, which she managed following her husband’s untimely passing. She enjoyed spending time with her family, traveling with her sons and listening to country music, especially Miss Emmylou Harris. She is a member of Resurrection Parish where a funeral Mass will be held 10 a.m. Saturday, Fr. George Gulash officiating. Friends will be received from 3-7 p.m. Friday at the Francis G. Ozog Funeral Home, Inc. 710 Broad Street where vigil service will be held. Committal will be held at Benshoff Hill Cemetery.
