SIRKO - Barry A., 72; Johnstown, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on October 8, 2018. Born July 14, 1946 in Johnstown, son of Adolph and Cecelia (Popchak) Sirko. Preceded in death by parents. Survived by sons, Barry and Christian; and former wife and caregiver, Joyce Sharp, who he married 50 years ago on August 17, 1968 at St. Columba Catholic Church, by Rev. Fr. Murtaugh J. Nolan. Also survived by grandsons, Luke and Tony; great grandson Landon and granddog, Duchess. A brother of Dennis, of Warren, OH; and Adolph, of Johnstown. Survived also by his California buddies, George Seminsky, John Ressler, George Piljay and Bob Hruneni; and locally, William Gentile. Former graduate of Johnstown High School and retiree of Florence Mining Company. He was a well-known manager, coach and pitcher for many winning softball teams and tournaments over the years, including “By George Inn” for Frank George and “Valley Printing” for Sam Scaletta. He was in several movie scenes from “Slap Shot” with actor Paul Newman. He was an avid Pittsburgh Penguin, Pirate and Steeler fan. A former member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church. The Family would like to thank Penn Hospice for their help and care, all of his Cambria City friends and neighbors, especially his God-mother, Rosie Gyurkovics.
