KAWA, Benny A., 89, of Johnstown, passed away at Arbutus Nursing Home on January 12, 2019. He was born on March 23, 1929, in Johnstown, Pennsylvania. Preceded in death by parents, John and Catherine Victoria Kawa, sister Wanda Pinkas, brothers Michael, Bola, and Joseph, and son-in-law, Kenneth Costlow. Survived by wife of 69 years, Ida, and daughters and caregivers Catherine Costlow (widow of Ken Costlow) of Johnstown, and Deborah, married to Jeff Rininger, Davidsville. Also survived by son Benny, married to Melinda Pisarczyk, Virginia, and daughter Mary Donna, married to Rick Cummings, Ohio, and sister Eleonore, married to Bernard Palowitch, Virginia, 8 grandchildren: Kristin, Luke, and Jana Rininger; Dana, Aaron, and Brianna Kawa; Matthew and Kevin Cummings and 3 great grandchildren: Taylor and Gabriel Kawa and James Anthony Hawes. Benny retired from the 21" Mill of Franklin Mills Department, Bethlehem Steel Corporation. His hobbies included solving crossword puzzles and reading newspapers. Benny enjoyed sports and was an avid fan of the Steelers and Pirates. Benny looked forward to attending numerous events with his daughter Cathy, including the annual St. Mary's Polka Fest and Ethnic Fest in Cambria City, concerts at Roxbury Bandshell, movies, and performances at Mountain Playhouse. The family would like to express their thanks and gratitude to the entire Arbutus Nursing Home Staff, Benny's "second family and home," for their compassionate and tender care. Family and friends will be received on Saturday, January 19, from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m., at the Francis G. Ozog Funeral Home, Inc., 710 Broad Street, where prayer service will be held at 5 p.m. with Pastor Randy Knupp officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions be sent to Arbutus Nursing Home, 207 Ottawa St., Johnstown, PA 15904, in memory of Benny.
