Christine M. (Gorentz) Smith

SMITH – Christine M., 90, of Johnstown died June 10, 2018, at Memorial Medical Center. Born July 27, 1927, in Johnstown the daughter of Jerry and Mary (Kodric) Gorentz. Preceded in death by her parents; husband, Walter R. Smith; sister, Mary Kubej-Homyak; and brothers: Jerry and Stanley Gorentz. She is survived by her children: Ronald, married to Gloria Skala, Mechanicsburg; and Eileen Town, Sarasota, FL; grandchildren: Matthew M. Town; Ronald (Tonya) Smith, Jr.; and Lisa Marie (Matthew) Laposata; great-grandchildren: Lauren, Cameron and Saffron; and brother, William (Betty) Gorentz. Christine was a member of St. Therese Catholic Church where she was very active as a member of Christian Mothers, Catholic Daughters, and volunteer baker for the festival. She was retired from Conemaugh Valley Memorial Hospital where she was a TV Hostess for over 20 years. She was a member and former secretary of SNPJ Lodge #3 for 25 years. She enjoyed playing pinochle in various clubs and recently one club celebrated 50 years together. Friends will be received Thursday from 11 a.m. – 12:45 p.m. at the Francis G. Ozog Funeral Home, Inc., 710 Broad St. Funeral Mass will be held 1 p.m. Thursday at St. Therese Catholic Church, Fr. Bernard Karmanocky, OFM. Committal will be held at Grandview Cemetery.
