George Migas Obituary

MIGAS - George A., 92, long-time resident of Richland Twp., Johnstown, died on February 17, 2019 at Richland Woods Assisted Living. Born February 4, 1927 in Johnstown, son of Andrew and Mary (Kristoff) Migas of Johnstown's Cambria City section. Preceded in death by wife of 46 years, the former Agnes Baran; sisters, Mary Petrunak, Helen Kaiser and Anna Mae Mikula, and infant brothers, John and Andrew. Survived by son, Andrew, married to former Linda Bush, Port Clinton, OH; daughters: Judy, married to Frank Petrusic, Richland Twp.; Mary Grace, married to Scott Daughenbaugh, Richland Twp.; and Joann, married to Gary Hawes, Oro Valley, AZ. Survived by 9 grandchildren: Susan Dolce (John), Concord, OH; Philip Migas (Darlene), Kirtland, OH; Terry Migas, Puyallup, WA; Becky Migas, Denver, CO; Eric Petrusic (Laura), Lake Mary, FL; Jason Petrusic (Jaime), York, PA; Garrett Hawes (Vi), Tucson, AZ; Josh Hawes, Oro Valley, AZ; and Jillian Hawes, Oro Valley, AZ. Also 9 great-grandchildren: Giacomo & Nicola Dolce; Alexander & Luke Migas; and Adam, Megan, Benjamin, Grant & Bronwyn Petrusic. Also survived by special friend, Clara "Susie" Gredesky. Graduate of Johnstown High School. U.S. Navy veteran with service during World War II. Retired from Bethlehem Steel electrical repair shop. Member of St. Benedict's Catholic Church in Johnstown, where he was proud of his marigold flower contributions to the Garden Ministry. He loved to polka. George had a passion for flower gardening and growing vegetables, which he shared with family and friends. He also had excellent repair, painting and “fix-it" skills around his home and his children's homes. He always liked to put a smile on peoples' faces with his teasing sense of humor. Special thanks to Windber Hospice Nurses Kelly and Marie, the entire staff at Windber Hospice, and to the staff at Richland Woods for all their professional care during his illness. Family and friends received Friday, Feb. 22 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the Francis G. Ozog Funeral Home, 710 Broad St., in the Cambria City section of Johnstown. Funeral Mass to be celebrated at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, Feb.23 at St. Benedict's Catholic Church, 2310 Bedford St., Johnstown by the Rev. David Peles, Pastor. Internment at Grandview Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to Windber Hospice or St. Benedict's Church Renovation Fund.
