KOVALCHIK – Stephanie, 98, of Johnstown, died July 14, 2019, in Trenton, Michigan. Born November 29, 1920, in Johnstown the daughter of John and Antonia (Kokoska) Bala. Preceded in death by her parents; husband, Steve Kovalchik; brother, Edward Bala; and sisters, Helen Ivancic and Phyllis Laphen. Survived by her loving children: Stephen (Jackie) Kovalchik, Riverview, MI; Lawrence (Cheryl) Kovalchik, Boerne, Tx; Maryann (Lawrence) Plummer, Etters, PA; and David (Barbara) Kovalchik, Mechanicsburg, PA; grandchildren: Stephanie, Stephan (Alisha), Nicholas and David Kovalchik; Rebecca and Teresa Plummer; and Dustin and Tyler (Jacki) Chubb; great-grandchildren: Stephen, Mia and Bennett. Sister of: Josephine Fritz, Mary Haggerty and John Bala. Special thanks to sister-in-law, Verna Lacastro for her many kindnesses. Also survived by friend and neighbor, Ethel Balachak; and phone companion and niece, Michelle Golias. During World War II, Stephanie worked as a security guard at a munitions factory in Ohio. Friends will be received from 4-8 p.m. Thursday at the Francis G. Ozog Funeral Home, Inc., 710 Broad Street where vigil service will be held. Funeral Mass will be held 10 a.m. Friday at Resurrection Parish, Fr. George Gulash. Committal will be held at Grandview Cemetery Mausoleum. Mom, when you meet St. Peter please don’t tell him “I’m not trying to tell you what to do, but….” In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations be made to either Resurrection Parish or EWTN Global Catholic Network in memory of Stephanie.
