PODPLESKY – Andrew Jr., 98, of Johnstown died May 10, 2021, at LaurelWood Care Center. Born April 9, 1923, in Johnstown the son of Andrew and Lucy (Bulka) Podlesky, Sr. Preceded in death by his parents; wife, Valeria T. “Val” (Hiti) Podplesky; brothers, Joseph and Stephen Podplesky; sister, Mary Saints; son-in-law, David “Ziggy” Zeigler; and sister-in-law, Sr. Mary Lawrence, ASC. Survived by his son, Stephen married to Kimberly (Speck-Free) Podplesky, Johnstown; daughter, Donna Zeigler; granddaughters: Kristen, wife of Justin Blanding, Pittsburgh; and Kayla, wife of Ryan Stefan, Hollidaysburg; great-grandchildren, Valairia and Connor Blanding; brothers, John (Elaine) Podplesky and Robert (Mary Jane) Saxon; and numerous nieces and nephews . Andrew was a Marine Corp Veteran of World War II serving with the 3rd Marine Division in the South Pacific where he was in the Battles of Guadalcanal, Guam, and Bougainville and was a Purple Heart recipient. He retired from Bethlehem Steel where he was a mechanic. He was a member of St. Therese Catholic Church There will be no visitation for Andrew however, family and friends are invited to attend a funeral Mass 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Therese Catholic Church, Fr. Bernard Karmanocky, OFM. Committal will take place at Grandview Cemetery with military honors by the Conemaugh Valley Detachment #287 Marine Corp League.
