Betty J. Petro

PETRO - Betty J., 89; Johnstown, passed away on August 12, 2025 at Conemaugh Hospital.  Born September 23, 1935 in Johnstown, daughter of Michael Sr. and Anna (Altimore) Berardi.  Preceded in death by parents; daughter-in-law, Kimberly (Vitt) Petro; grandson, Jude Sanders; brothers: Patsy Berardi, Alfred Berardi, John Berardi, Frank Berardi and Michael Berardi Jr.  Survived by loving husband, of 67 years, Francis E. “Frank” Petro Sr. of Johnstown; and loving children: Catherine M. wife of Douglas Barnes of Alpharetta, GA; Francis Petro Jr. and fiancee Lynn of Maryland; Stephen G. and Caroline (Rendar) Petro; and Maria wife of Robert Sanders, all of Johnstown.  Also survived by grandchildren: Amanda Abbott and Andrew (Wesley) Barnes; Nicholas (Alison), Quinten and Anastasia Petro; Sydney and Angelina Petro; and Stephen Sanders; great grandchildren: Malia and Tate Abbott; and Michael, Cecilia and Anthony Petro.  A sister of Theresa Krentz of Johnstown.  Also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Betty worked for over 21 years as secretary of Visitation BVM Catholic Church and was active in the St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Guild and organizing the church BINGO.  Betty was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She enjoyed cooking and having family and friends over to spend time with.  She always made sure everyone had enough to eat.  Friends received Friday from 2 to 8 p.m. at the Francis G. Ozog Funeral Home Inc., Broad Street.  Funeral Mass will be held Saturday at 11:00 a.m. at Visitation BVM Catholic Church, the Rev. John J. Slovikovski. Committal will follow at St. Anthony Cemetery.  Memorial donations may be made to the Francis and Betty Petro Scholarship Fund at Bishop McCort High School.  The family would like to thank the nurses and staff at Conemaugh Hospital Palliative Care for their loving and compassionate care.
