DZENDZEL – Charles N., 91, of Lower Yoder, died April 8, 2022, at home surrounded by his loving family. Born February 11, 1931, in Detroit, MI the son of Michael and Anna (Kovalchik) Dzendzel. Preceded in death by his parents; mother and father-in-law, Mary and Joseph Bernas; brother, Michael Dzendzel; and brothers-in-law, Frank Amistadi; and Richard Kostkas. He is survived by his loving wife of 47 years Helen (Bernas) Dzendzel; sisters, Eleanor “Sis” Amistadi; and Mary Ann Kostkas; sister-in-law, Rosalie Dzendzel; and numerous nieces and nephews. Charles was retired from the US Steel Corp. where he worked in production planning. He was the past president and treasurer of the US Steel Chorus that sang at hospitals and schools during Christmas time and held a spring concert. Charles was a US Airforce Veteran of the Korean War and graduate of the University of California of Pennsylvania. After his retirement Charles was a substitute teacher at the Greater Johnstown School District and was a foster grandparent for 15 years. Friends will be received at 10 a.m. until time of Transfer Prayers Tuesday at the Francis G. Ozog Funeral Home, Inc., 710 Broad Street. Funeral Mass will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Therese Catholic Church, Fr. Bernard Karmanocky, OFM officiating. Committal will be held at St. Francis Cemetery.
