Darby Sprincz Obituary

SPRINCZ, Darby J., 69 of Westmont, passed away June 24, in the arms of his wife at home after a brief illness. He was born in 1957, son of John “Kojak” and Marion (Prysiazniuk) Sprincz. Darby was preceded in death by his parents; and infant twin brothers.  He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Emilie (Yursky); son Dakota and wife Hannah (Richards); and grandson Dax.  Darby is also survived by his younger brother, Greg “Iggy” and wife Jackie (Pawcio); nieces Liz and Lauren; sister-in-law, Janice (Yursky); and nephews Bryce and Brent (Troyan).  Darby was a 1975 graduate of Greater Johnstown High and played baseball for the school as well as for Junior League teams such as Laffey’s, Pyramids, and Swanks. He also played in many AAABA tourneys, and a AAABA alumni game in his later years. After high school, Darby began working for the City of Johnstown, where he remained for 40 years before retiring as the Public Works director. His employees knew exactly what was expected; he was fair, and he was honest. Darby also enjoyed hockey, both as a player and a referee at games at the War Memorial. He loved spending time with his son, Dakota, whether at home or at the ball field, where Darby coached Dakota through many Little League Baseball games. Darby also enjoyed getting the opportunity to work part-time as a certified ski instructor at Seven Springs for 25 years with his son in tow. Darby also joined his son at karate class and achieved the rank of second-degree black belt. He was a lean, mean exercise machine in his younger days playing racquetball and often rollerblading down Haws Pike. He enjoyed golfing, hunting, and fishing for as long as he could. Many family outings consisted of a trip to the shooting range. Much like his parents, Darby knew many people from many walks of life. You always knew what was on Darby’s mind, and it didn't matter who you were. He was not one to mince his words; he was always direct and straight to the point.  He was a kind and loving husband, father, and grandfather.  Besides his son Dakota, his grandson Dax was his world.  Dax put the twinkle in his eye and the pep in his step.  He was looking forward to taking him on a fishing trip with his new fishing pole. In the past few years, Darby slowed down a little but enjoyed bantering with people on Facebook and feeding the wildlife at “Darbrassic Park.”  He will truly be missed by all who knew and loved him.
