David Keafer Obituary

KEAFER - David Henry, 96; Johnstown, passed away on January 1, 2026 at Laurel View Village.  Born February 24, 1929 in Johnstown, son of Lloyd Sylvester Sr. and Edna (Stahl) Keafer.  Preceded in death by parents; wife, Genevieve (Bench) Keafer; brothers, Dwight S. Keafer and Lloyd S. Keafer Jr.; and sisters, Eleanor K. Mock and Anna Griffith.  He was the last survivor of his immediate family. Survived by loving daughters, Diane Keafer of Pickerington, OH; Yvonne Keafer of Pittsburgh; and Lucinda Custer (Thomas) of York, PA. Also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. David was a U.S. Army Veteran, serving as a radio repairman during the Korean War.  A member of St. Therese Catholic Church.  David was a graduate of Conemaugh Township High School and was on the wrestling and track  teams.  He was a longtime employee of Johnstown Sani-Dairy as an ice cream truck driver.  Sani-Dairy was also where he met his wife Gen, where fate had Dave share his sandwich with her when they worked one Fourth of July weekend.  The family wishes to thank the administration and staff of Laurel View Village for the loving care they provided for our dad.  They truly all came to feel like family.  Our dad was a devoted husband and father.  We fondly remember our annual beach vacations to Wildwood, NJ, Dad teaching us all to drive, sledding on truck inner tubes and receiving fully stocked tool boxes when we left home.  Dad was fondly known in certain circles by such nicknames as, “Mr. Frisky”, “King David” and “The Ice Cream Man”.  Friends will be received Tuesday, from 3 to 7 p.m., at the Francis G. Ozog Funeral Home Inc., Broad Street.  Private Funeral Service will be held Wednesday, the Rev. Bernard Karmanocky, OFM.  Committal will take place at Grandview Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Laurel View Village Caring Fund at: https://www.laurelviewvillage.com/opportunities-to-give/donations-2023/or to the St. Therese Catholic Church at 536 Decker Ave. Johnstown, PA 15906 in memory of David Keafer.  Condolences may be sent at fgozogfuneralhome.com
