Dolores Kasper Obituary

Dolores Lillian Kasper, 89, passed away peacefully on September 22, 2022, at the Allegheny Lutheran Home at Johnstown, surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Johnstown on April 29, 1933, the fifth child of Frank Andrew Sax and Sofia (Maurer) Sax. Dolores married John Kasper on July 2, 1951, and they celebrated 69 years of marriage before John's passing on September 6, 2020.

Dolores is survived by her son, David, and daughter-in-law, Kathleen (Strank) Kasper of Stone Lake, WI; daughter, Pamela (Kasper) Zimmer, and son-in-law, Philip Zimmer of Bethlehem, PA; three grandchildren, Douglas Kasper, MD, and his wife, Katherine (Roth) Kasper, MD of Dunlap, IL, Susan (Kasper) Murray, DMD, and her husband, Christopher Murray of Herndon, VA and Matthew Kasper of Madison, WI; four great-grandchildren, Diana Kasper, Samuel Kasper, Audrey Murray, and Veronica Murray; one sibling, Carl R. Sax and his wife Carol Ann (Bittman) Sax; brother-in-law Andrew Kasper and his wife Phyllis (Altman) Kasper, and two other sisters-in-law Caroline Kasper and Helen Majerski.

Dolores was preceded in death by her parents, her husband John, her youngest son, Donald, and her siblings William Maurer Sax, Valentine Sax, Frank Sax, Jr., Stephen Sax, Irene Sax, Robert Sax, Edward Sax, and Anna Mae (Sax) Griffith.

Dolores, one of ten children, was raised in the family home her father built in the Morrellville neighborhood. After her marriage, she and John raised David, Pamela, and Donald in that same home, and in 2004, they moved to Westmont Borough. Dolores held various retail positions in Johnstown, including the Joe Berman Clothing Store and the Studio Book Shop.

After raising her children and receiving her GED diploma in 1978, Dolores returned to the workforce. For the remainder of her career, Dolores worked as the Food Service Director at the Conemaugh Valley Memorial Hospital until her retirement.

Dolores was a devout and faithful Catholic. She was active in her parish at St. Francis of Assisi Roman Catholic Church. She was an avid reader, a marvelous cook and baker, and a dedicated homemaker. Her true love was hosting dinners and parties—any reason to get together with family and friends. Dolores was well-known for sharing, caring, and preparing meals for the sick, the elderly, neighbors, and friends. Dolores was called Dee Dee by her siblings, Dee by friends, and Mom by David, Pam, and Donnie. But, she was most proud to be everyone's Nana, especially to Doug, Susan, and Matt.

Everyone who knew Nana will remember her for her kindness, loving spirit, hard work, and caring and gentle personality. She was a devoted wife and a loving mother to her children and was incredibly proud of her three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. She always had so much love to give, and everyone loved Nana.

Her family sincerely thanks Dr. Balkisson Maharajh, MD, for his professionalism, kindness, and compassionate care. It extends its gratitude to the entire exceptionally skilled nursing care staff at the Allegheny Lutheran Home. The family wants to recognize Nurse Debbie from 365 Hospice, who gave Nana a comfortable and loving passing to Heaven.
