WILFONG – Donald John Sr. (Jack) of Johnstown, 95, passed away November 18, 2021 at The Villa. Born January 9, 1926 the son of Brennis and Thelma (Howlett) Wilfong. Preceded in death by his parents, brothers James, Walter, Raymond, Brennis (Lefty) and Robert; sisters Doris (Wilfong) Boring and Irene (Wilfong) Vuletic; grandson David Maola; brothers-in-law John Iacaruso, John Truscello, Anthony Iacaruso, Eugene Iacaruso, Raymond Cushman and Steven Thomas; sisters-in-law Betty Ann (Skubak) Wilfong, Mary (Iacaruso) Thomas and Catherine (Peddicord) Iacaruso. Survived by his loving wife of 75 years, Esther Louise (Iacaruso) Wilfong; children Darlene (Michael) Howrylak, Dr. Donald Wilfong (Dr. Donamarie), Jacqueline Spory (Joseph Sansone) and Denise (Walter) Atkins. Pappy Jack’s grandchildren include Heather (Thomas) Newcomer, Jared (Courtney) Howrylak, Allison Maola, Garrett Spory, Dr. Joshua Wilfong (Dr. Amy Bagatto), Dr. Jordan Wilfong (Dr. Jeanelle Sears), Jacob Wilfong, David (Amy) Atkins and Craig (Trish) Atkins. He is survived by 14 amazing great-grandchildren and another great-grandson on the way. Also survived by brother Ronald Wilfong and sister-in-law Mildred (Brilhart) Wilfong. Jack bravely joined the United States Navy at the age of 17. He honorably served during World War II in the Pacific Theater as a Torpedo Man 2C. He later retired from a career at US Steel as a core maker where he was also a grievance man for Local 1288. Member of the GBU, VFW and Retired Men’s Club. Though his favorite role was undoubtedly being a grandfather who spent endless hours with his grandkids over the years. He always said how blessed he was to watch his grandkids and then great-grandkids grow up, never missing a sporting event, school activity or party. Jack was a true gentleman, known for his patience and humor, loved by all who knew him. He and Esther renewed their wedding vows this past June. He will be greatly missed. His family would like to thank The Villa and Interim Hospice for their compassion and care. Family and friends will be received Sunday 11/21/2021 from 2 – 7 p.m. at the Francis G. Ozog Funeral Home, Inc., 710 Broad Street. Funeral Mass will be held 10 a.m. Monday 11/22/2021 at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 609 Park Avenue, Fr. James Crookston, celebrant. Committal at St. Anthony’s Cemetery, Richland, with military honors by VFW Menoher Post 155 Ritual Team. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial donations to St. Patrick Church in Moxham or a favorite charity of your choice.
