MESNAK – Edward Robert, 94, Johnstown, died on November 13, 2023, at Westmont Woods. Born April 5, 1929, in Johnstown, son of Thomas and Catherine (Grassa) Mesnak. Preceded in death by parents and brothers, Thomas, Francis, Joseph, and Walter. Survived by brother Rudy, Dover, DE and sister-in-law, Joan Mesnak, Johnstown. Also survived by several nieces and nephews, especially Michael Mesnak of Grand Rapids, MI who often called him and always visited him when in town. Eddie will be missed by his neighbor/caregiver, Debbie and caregivers Betty and Wendy. Eddie was a member of the C.F.U. and the First Russian American Federation where he enjoyed socializing with the club members. Eddie loved sports, especially baseball and football and coached both sports for a major portion of his life. Eddie loved his Pittsburgh Pirates, Pittsburgh Steelers, Pittsburgh Penguins, Pitt Panthers, and the AAABA tournament. He knew a tremendous amount of information about baseball statistics as well as about Johnstown history. He was a U.S. Army Veteran of the Korean War and was employed by Bethlehem Steel at the coke plant. Eddie was one of the friendliest people in the West End and all those who knew him enjoyed his personality and sense of humor. Eddie was a member of the former St. Rochus Church where he served as an usher and bell ringer. Many thanks to Kayleigh and all the staff of Westmont Woods who provided him with excellent care throughout his stay there and treated him like family. Friends will be received Saturday from 9 - 10:30 a.m. at the Francis G. Ozog Funeral Home, Inc. Funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Resurrection Catholic Church, Fr. George Gulash officiating. Committal will take place at St. Rochus Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please donate to Resurrection Parish in memory of Eddie.
