Elizabeth Rozich-Kinnel Obituary

Elizabeth “Betty” Rozich Kinnel, beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully at the age of 94 on February 25, 2025. She was born in Johnstown, PA, on October 15, 1930, to Michael and Anna (Lucas) Brindza and stepmother, Florence (Zierer) Brindza. Betty was preceded in death by her parents, in-laws Ivan and Mildred Rozich, her first husband of 59 years, John P. Rozich, daughter and son-in-law Janine and Joseph Tollis, her siblings Francis (Mary) Brindza and Rita (Jack) Spampinato, as well as her granddaughter-in-law, Tara Bogler. She was also preceded in death by brothers-in-law Steve, George, Mark, Jim, Joe, Frank, and Robert, and sisters-in-law Midge, Josephine, and Dorothy, along with her second husband, James Kinnel. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. She is survived by her devoted children, Denise (Tom) Bogler of Murrells Inlet, South Carolina and Joni (Joe) Hochstein of Johnstown. She also leaves behind her adored grandchildren, Justin Bogler (Andrew), Brianne (Kenny) Bittner, Dana Hochstein, Michael (Rowan) Tollis, Aaron Hochstein, Eric (Elizabeth) Tollis, Matthew Hochstein, and Joseph Hochstein, as well as her treasured great-grandchildren, Nathan Bogler, Gavin, Maggie, and Finley Bittner, and Camillia and Aubrey Tollis. She is also survived by her loving sisters-in-law, Coletta, Eileen, Judy, Charlotte, and Linda, along with many nieces and nephews. In her younger years, Betty worked at Bestform in Cambria City before dedicating herself to raising her family. She was known for her incredible Slovak cooking, filling her home with the delicious aromas of chicken paprikash, haluski, and her legendary nut and poppyseed rolls. Her heart was devoted to her family and her faith, and she loved hosting family dinners. She also cherished her polka family, following the Button Box and Rhinelanders, and singing with the Nightingale Singing Group. Betty embraced life with joy, whether it was dancing to a polka at every opportunity, traveling to the Catskills for polka weekends with Johnny, casino hopping with her daughter Janine, or simply enjoying a Coors Light and a glass of Moscato. She will be deeply missed but forever remembered in the hearts of those who loved her. She was the heart of her family—may she rest in eternal peace, dancing among the stars.  Friends received Sunday from 4 to 7pm at the Francis G. Ozog Funeral Home Inc. Broad Street.  Funeral Mass will be held 10 a.m. Monday at St.Therese Catholic Church.  Committal will follow at St. Francis Cemetery.  The family requests please omit flowers, and make donations in memory of Betty to St.Therese Catholic Church or to the Windber Hospice.
