Elizabeth M. (Thomas) Schonvisky

SCHONVISKY (Thomas) – Elizabeth M., 96, of Johnstown, beloved wife of the late Cornelius Schonvisky, passed away on April 23, 2019. Born in Dunlo, PA, her family moved to Johnstown in the early 1930’s. She needed to leave school in the 6th grade to help support her family. After proudly obtaining her GED and her Nurse’s Aid Certificate in which she finished first in her class, she worked in the Emergency Room of Conemaugh Hospital for 20 years prior to her retirement. She lovingly took care of her husband Neil for 10 years after his stroke, celebrating their 50th anniversary on June 28, 1997. She was a lifetime member of Croatian Fraternal Union. She loved bowling, annual Croatian picnics and ethnic festivals. She was a devout member of St. Rochus, St. Columba and after church consolidations, St. Francis of Assisi Churches. She was preceded in death by her husband, Neil; her father and mother, Joseph and Anna Thomas (Tomasic); brothers: Michael, Frank and Joseph; sisters: Lucy, Ann, Mary, Kay and Mildred. She is survived by son Gary, his wife Penny, of Connecticut; granddaughter, Jennifer and her husband Brad Francis of Arizona; grandson, Matthew, his wife Chelsea and 10-month old great-granddaughter Emily, of Connecticut; and numerous nieces and nephews. Friends will be received Monday from 5 – 7 p.m. at the Francis G. Ozog Funeral Home, Inc., 710 Broad Street where a vigil service will be held. Funeral Mass will take place 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, Franciscan Friars O.F.M., Conv. Committal will be held at Grandview Cemetery.
