Eugene Podratsky Obituary

Podratsky, Eugene  G., 87, of Richland Township, passed away November 7, 2025, at Richland Woods.  Born July 17, 1938, in Johnstown.  Son of Albert A.  and Anna (Murin) Podratsky.  Preceded in death by parents, sister Dolores, and brothers Albert J. and James A. Podratsky.  Survived by dearly loved wife of 65 years Dolores (Pilot), and by sons, Michael F. (Teresa St. Cin), David G. (Mary Jo Leslie), and Stephen P. (special friend Joanie Foust). Also survived by grandchildren Samantha Jo, Daniel J. (fiancée Olivia Keenan), Matthew T., and Edward Rietscha (Becky Wilk) ; great-grandchildren Payton and Cameron Rietscha; sister-in-law Patricia Buck; and numerous nephews and nieces.

 Former member of St. Peter & Paul Church and member of St. John Gualbert Cathedral. Served as a Eucharistic Minister to the Atrium Manor and the homebound, lector, CCD teacher, and member of the Pastoral Council and Nocturnal Adoration Society. Member of the Retired Men’s Club and Retired Men’s Chorus.  

Attended the Asphalt Campus of UPJ; graduated with a B.S.Ed. from Lock Haven University of Pa; graduated with a M.Ed. degree from Indiana University of Pa.  Earned Secondary Principal Certification from Duquesne University. Also completed graduate study courses at the University of Pittsburgh and Penn State University.

Taught and coached at Bishop Carroll High School and Garfield Junior High School. Served as an assistant principal at Cochran Junior High. Served as principal at Conemaugh Valley High School and at Conemaugh Township Junior - Senior High School.  Former member of the Somerset County Principal’s Association, National Association of Secondary School Principals, and Retired Johnstown Teachers and Administrators Association.

 Served as a PIAA Football Official for 28 years. Served as a coach and manager for the Arbutus Park Boys Baseball League. Loved golfing, fishing, gardening, pinochle, and traveling with his wife across America, Germany, Italy, and Medjugorje.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the nurses, aides, and staff at the Richland Woods for the compassionate care that he was given.

Friends will be received on Tuesday, November 11, 2025, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Francis G. Ozog Funeral Home Inc. Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, November 12, 2025, at St. John Gualbert Cathedral, Very Rev. Matthew B. Baum and Rev Jordan Hite, TOR. Burial at Grandview Mausoleum.
