George Moncilovich Obituary

MONCILOVICH - George Jr., 85; Johnstown, passed away on May 11, 2023 at Richland Woods.  Born September 25, 1937 in Franklin Boro, son of George Sr. and Milica (Oparnica) Moncilovich.  Preceded in death by parents; beloved wife, Amelia “Millie” Moncilovich; and son, George Moncilovich. He was the last survivor of his immediate family.  Survived by sons, Milan (Stephanie) of Drexel Hill, PA; Michael (Susan) of Charlotte, NC; and daughter-in-law, Lori A. Moncilovich of Poland, OH.  Also survived by grandchildren, Nickolas, George, Ethan and Isaac.  A graduate, and 3 sport athlete of Franklin High School, Class of 1955.  George was the first in his family to go to college. He earned a football scholarship and graduated, with a B.S. in Chemical Engineering from Bucknell University. He received the Frank B. McKune Award, for a paper he wrote entitled “Determining Roof Thickness By Cold Face Temperatures”.   He and Millie were married in 1962, they moved to Baltimore, MD then on to Valparaiso, IN where they raised their family.  George retired from Bethlehem Steel Corp. after 39 years of service.  He served for 8 years with the Army National Guard. He remained active in church, sports, substitute teaching and lifelong love of restoring antique cars.   He was an active member of St. Sava Serbian Orthodox Church in Merrillville, and a Lifelong member of St. Nicholas Serbian Orthodox Church in Johnstown.  We can take comfort knowing that he now walks with his wife and son in heaven.  He will be greatly missed by his family, until we are all together again.  Friends received on Friday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Francis G. Ozog Funeral Home Inc., Broad Street.  Funeral Service will be held Saturday at 10:00 a.m. at the St. Nicholas Serbian Orthodox Church, the Rev. Presbyter Dragan Vukovic.  Burial will follow at Grandview Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the St. Nicholas Serbian Church Building Fund in memory of George Moncilovich.  Condolences may be sent at fgozogfuneralhome.com
