HUDAK- Glenn George, 66, of Pittsburgh formerly of Johnstown passed away May 17, 2024. Born September 4, 1957, in Johnstown, son of John A. and Mary (Kocherkevich) Hudak. Preceded in death by his parents. Survived by siblings, John J. Hudak married to Agapi Svolou, Janet J. married to David P. Skoner, Laura Lynn married to Richard D. Birkhimer, and Ronald R. Hudak married to Karen (Novak); nieces, Jessica (John) Bolton, Alison Skoner-Troese, Amanda (Joseph) Sforza, Julianne Skoner (fiancé Alex Guerriero) and Marijo (Christopher) Pickett; nephews, Marko Hudak, Jonathan (Christina) Skoner, and Jason (Mariah) Birkhimer; great nieces, Madison, Charlotte, Mackenzie, Serena, Lauralai, Lillian, Sierra, and Kaitlyn; great nephews, Anthony, Zachary, Maxwell, Addison, and Jaxon.
Born and raised in Johnstown, Pennsylvania, Glenn graduated from Westmont Hilltop High School where he competed in sports, lettering in cross-country, track and field, wrestling and tennis. He developed a strong work ethic at an early age, delivering newspapers, performing -many types of home repair and maintenance, auto mechanics, lawn landscaping and most of all, assisting in numerous facets of the family-owned TV and appliance business.
Glenn was a proud graduate of the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown’s School of Engineering with a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering. While a student, he was an officer of the American Society of Civil Engineers Society, and the cross-country running team. He also competed running the Johnstown Marathon and finishing in the top 25%.
After college, Glenn moved to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania beginning his career, where he subsequently settled later in life. Glenn became well-travelled through his occupation, moving to spearhead construction projects in Colorado, Indiana, Ohio, and the British territory of Bermuda working for various engineering firms where he contributed his knowledge to increasing levels of construction projects. He successfully built his career beginning in field construction, senior project engineer, general contractor, and rising to become a Director of Facilities Management. His engineering projects included railroad wheel plants, nuclear power plants, and a charter school building. He returned to Pittsburgh contributing as a project manager for a lead general contracting company during construction of the Pittsburgh International Airport and light rail transit system. His “all-in” and “perfectionist” personality propelled him to succeed in everything he pursued. As principal, Glenn started his own successful professional engineering consulting and contracting business remodeling, maintaining, and landscaping for homes and apartment buildings.
Glenn had wide interests and enjoyed many hobbies including playing sports, skiing, playing tennis and basketball, cars, motorcycles, running, biking, car mechanics, photography, analyzing company stocks, gardening, watching, and attending Pittsburgh sports teams.
Glenn’s kind-hearted and generous soul had a large appetite for living. He treasured celebrations with family and friends. He loved sunny days, working outdoors, dogs, enjoying traditional holiday foods, helping family and friends to solve problems, and doing repairs, remodeling, building things and refinishing furniture.
His brothers, sisters and immediate family will deeply miss Glenn.
Friends will be received Friday 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the Francis G. Ozog Funeral Home, Inc., 710 Broad Street where vigil service will be held. Funeral Mass will take place 10 a.m. Saturday at Our Mother of Sorrows Catholic Church, the Very Rev. Mark S. Begly, VF officiating. Committal will be held at Grandview Cemetery.
