Helen G. Cosgrove

COSGROVE - Helen G. (Golian), 89; of The Atrium Community, formerly of Benshoff Hill, passed away on June 11, 2022. She was reunited with her beloved husband who died May 27, 1998.   Born May 1, 1933 in Johnstown, daughter of Andrew and Margaret Golian.  Preceded in death by parents; beloved husband, Raymond E. Cosgrove; brother Andrew; Stephen and wife Agnes (Oravec); Joseph and wife Dorothy (Altimore); Thomas Golian; sister, Margaret Micik and husband Donald; brothers-in-law, Frank Oravec; and nephew, Matthew Oravec.  Survived by her dear children, Edward P. married to Linda (McCann) of Woodbridge, VA; and Richard C. married to Christine (Trotz) of Johnstown; also four grandchildren, Ryan, Cory, Rex and Leo Cosgrove.  Also survived by beloved sister Magdalene Oravec of Johnstown; sisters-in-law, Sandra (Berkey) Golian;  Vashti Cosgrove; brother-in-law, Bro Frederick P. Cosgrove CSC whom retired as missionary from Uganda; and Godson Donald Micik; and numerous nieces and nephews.  Helen was very strong in her Catholic Faith. Her gentle soul and soft heart helped to define her character. Her love for her family and grandchildren were very dear to her.  Her first in life, were to God and Church. She instilled this in her children.  The rosary was special to her. A great mother, grandmother, sister and friend. Helen was a Foster Grandparent Volunteer and she enjoyed crocheting at the library, for cancer patients. Helen had a lifelong love of gardening, planting flowers wherever she visited and lived. Through her career as a deli worker, she became a minor celebrity building friendships with customers around the city. Friends received on Saturday from 9:30 am until 10:45 at the Francis G. Ozog Funeral Home Inc., Broad Street. Funeral Mass will follow, 11:00 a.m. at Resurrection Parish, the Rev. George M. Gulash. Committal will take place at Grandview Cemetery.
