DURAY – Helen “Max”, 95 of Johnstown, died April 2, 2023, at Laurel View Village, Davidsville. Born January 3, 1928, in Johnstown, the daughter of Andrew and Anna (Balashak) Maksim. Preceded in death by her parents; beloved husband, Andrew; twin sons, Mark and Andrew; sister, Anna (Maksim) Dutko and special fur-iend, Fiona. She is survived by children--Daria Duray; Lynn, married to D. Allen Brant; and Adam, married to Lisa (Marley) Duray. She was a loving grandmother to Andrea, married to Howard Taylor and Michael, married to Meghan (Gardiner) Brant. She was also great-grandmother to Norah Elizabeth Brant, whom she fondly called “our baby.”
Before her move to Davidsville, Helen loved to bake, shop, and dance. She was a duck-pin champ and saved everything. During her years at Laurel View, she enjoyed field trips for ice cream, BINGO nights, and Bible Study. Throughout her life, she would stand up for herself, those she loved, and her Lord. She was more than willing to give you her views or opinion and the last, most endearing was told to a friend just weeks ago. “Put it in God’s hands and wait…and wait…and wait.” A special heart-felt thanks to the staff at Laurel View Village, who cared for her, especially as her time here came to a close. Momma, your wait is over.
“Let not your hearts be troubled; believe in God, believe also in Me. In my Father’s house are many rooms; if it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you? And when I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and take you to myself, that where I am, you may also be. John 14:1-3
