Irene (Korchnak) Maguth

Irene Maguth passed away October 13, 2024. She was born January 10, 1932, in Cambria City and is the last surviving member of her immediate family.

Irene was preceded in death by her husband William “Ed” Maguth, parents Stephen M. and Mary K. (Kachmar) Korchnak, brother Stephen J. Korchnak (Eleanor), sisters Helen Kubej (Joseph) and Margaret Mley (Andrew) and special niece and nephew, Sharon Kreinbrook and Larry Petrus. She is survived by many nieces and nephews but especially Susan (Mley) Thomas and Michele (Mley) Mcclelland.

Irene attended the former Johnstown Catholic High School. She started her varied career at National Radiator and Continued on to jobs at Cambria Savings and Loan Assoc., Crown American Corp., and retired from CJL Engineering. It was during her employment at CJL that she was chosen for the YMCA Tribute to Women Outstanding Woman STEM award in 2015.

Irene was a lifelong member of St. Stephen/ Resurrection Catholic Parish, and she had a great devotion to the Blessed Mother. She enjoyed decorating her home, reading, knitting, word search puzzles, craft fairs, shopping at Boscov’s and TJMaxx and just sitting on her back porch.

The family would like to extend their thanks to the staff at Horizons at Villa Crest and all the wonderful people at Interim Hospice for taking such great care of her on her last journey.

A funeral mass will be held in her honor at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, October 15, 2024, at Resurrection Parish. A private burial will take place at the convenience of the family.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital or Interim Hospice in her memory.
