HOOVER - James R., 90; Johnstown, went to be with the Lord, on December 4, 2024. Born March 19, 1934 in Johnstown, son of James C. and Mary Ellen (Barkhymer). Preceded in death by parents; his beloved wife and high school sweetheart, Phyllis A. (Hritz) Hoover; and sister, Jean Hoover Humphreys-Durham. Survived by loving children, Deborah (Edward) Gilkey, of Johnstown; Pamela (Thomas) Prohonic of Johnstown; Brian (Lori) of New Jersey. James enjoyed attending many sporting events and school activities including many games of his son at Bishop McCort, and he could be seen in the bleachers or theater seats of his grandchildren, Lara, Thomas Jr. (Christine), and Bradley Prohonic (Katie); Amy Gilkey Struzinski (Matthew); Olivia and Alexandra Hoover; and great grandchildren, Jaxon, Maverick, Lorelei, Josephine, Emilia and Lily Prohonic. A brother of Robert Hoover (Diana) of Massachusetts; and nieces and nephews. Retired Switchman for PA Bell and G.T.E. Company. He was part of the Wednesday morning coffee group with GTE co-workers. James was an avid reader. He also was a Civil War and Gettysburg history enthusiast. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend; and he will be missed by all who knew him. The family would like to thank the excellent staff at the Windber Woods Senior Care for their compassionate care. Also, the family wishes to thank Valley Dairy morning crew, who took great care of dad and mom for many years. Private services will be held for the family. Arrangements by Francis G.
