Janet F. (Babich) Piskurich

PISKURICH – Janet Francine., 72, formerly of Johnstown, died July 17, 2023, in Moncure, NC. Born December 12, 1950, in Johnstown, PA, daughter of John and Jenny (Fabina) Babich. Preceded in death by her parents and brother, Ronald Babich. Survived by husband, George Piskurich; family and friends. Janet received her bachelor’s degree from the University of Pittsburgh, and worked as a medical technologist. 15 years after receiving her bachelors degree  Janet attended Case Western Reserve University to pursue her Doctoral Degree in Research Science, Immunology, and Pathology. Toward the end of her career, she enjoyed working at Texas Tech University where she was a full professor and taught medical students. She was a nature enthusiast, one of her biggest enjoyments was fly fishing. She was able to go fly fishing in 49 of the 50 states. She was a competitive sailor for many years at Lake Erie. She also enjoyed playing the piano, singing both with her husband and the church choir. More recently she found a great joy in managing her fishing lake. She will be missed dearly. Friends will be received Friday, July 28, 2023, from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Francis G. Ozog Funeral Home Inc. A Funeral Mass will be held Saturday, July 29, 2023, at 11:00 AM at St. Benedict Catholic Church, Fr. Charles Amershek, celebrant. Committal will follow at Grandview Cemetery.
