SPAMPINATO - Joan Marie, 95; of Westwood went home to the Lord on June 25, 2025. Born September 5, 1929 in Johnstown, daughter of John and Jennie (Basista) Puhala. Preceded in death by parents; husband, Joseph Spampinato; sister Vivian and brother-in-law Paul Brown; sister Gertrude and brother-in-law James Fiscus; brother Richard Puhala; and nephew Michael Fiscus. Survived by sister-in-law Carol (Grey) Puhala; nephews Zachary Puhala, Jonathan (Nina) Brown, David Brown; nieces Alexis Puhala, Teresa Montoya and Paula (Mario) Chovil and families. Joan was a 1946 graduate of Johnstown High School and 1950 graduate of Indiana State Teachers College. She earned her Masters Degree from Penn State University and the University of Pittsburgh. Former English teacher at Johnstown High School. Joan traveled and studied extensively throughout the United States, Canada, Europe, Middle East, Hawaii and Puerto Rico. She is a member of St. Therese, of the child Jesus, Catholic Church. She has served as a lector, Eucharistic Minister, religious education teacher. A member of the literacy committee and of the Society of St. Vincent DePaul. A special thank you to Conemaugh Hospice and caregiver Monica Rose for their compassionate care. At the request of the deceased, burial and services will be private. Donations in memory of Joan Marie Spampinato may be made to St. Therese Church or to the Society of St. Vincent DePaul.
