GAUDREAU - John Michael; 31 died suddenly on August 29th, 2024 alongside his brother, Matthew Ryan, 29. John was a devoted son, loving husband and adoring father.
Predeceased by his grandfather John Guy Gaudreau and his grandmother Marie Lloyd. Survived by his wife of 3 years Meredith Alexandria (nee Morris), his daughter Noa, his son John, his parents Jane (nee Lloyd) and Guy Gaudreau, his sisters Kristen (A.J.) and Kaitlyn (Devin), his parents-in-law (Ed and Cheryl Morris), his sister-in-law Madeline Gaudreau, Frances (Billy), Tyler (Pat), Lily (Ryan), his brothers-in-law Eddie and Matthew and his nieces Kamryn, Logan, Emma, Chloe and Claudia and soon to be nephew Tripp. John excelled as a hockey player at Gloucester Catholic High School, where he played under his father alongside his brother. He continued his career as a top player in the USHL in Dubuque, Iowa, and then at the next level for Boston College, where he won the Hobey Baker Award, honoring the best collegiate hockey player. He went on to start his NHL career, becoming a seven-time All-Star.Fame and stardom aside, John was a quiet and simple person. Spending time with his loved ones was what he cared about most. His family members were his best friends, and his best friends were considered family. In addition to his excellent 10-year NHL career, he loved all types of competition: men's softball league in the summer, backyard cornhole, darts in the garage, betting hole by hole during a golf round, card games, or racing at word search puzzles. He made everything more fun, and there was always something on the line to play for. And he always won. John was a world-renowned hockey superstar, yet somehow managed to be an even better father. His whole world revolved around his children. He and his wife cherished early mornings with their kids, drinking lots of black iced coffee, and late nights on the couch watching countless hours of television. John and Meredith were inseparable best friends and soulmates. John's smile was infectious, and his personality was so special. He was shy, yet the life of the party. Quiet, yet hilarious. Witty, yet so innocent. Most of all, he was kind to everyone and as humble as it gets. Once you got to know John, he instantly became your favorite person. John's legacy will live on not just in the records he set or the accolades he earned, but in the hearts of those who knew and loved him. His memory will forever remind us that the greatest achievements in life are the strong bonds we share with others. Contributions in both John and Matthew's memory may be made to the John & Matthew Gaudreau Foundation, c/o Lewis Gross, Sports Professional Management, 560 Sylvan Avenue, Suite 3070, Englewood Cliffs, NJ 07632.
