JEDRZEJEK—John Edward, “Jay”, 79; of Johnstown, passed away suddenly on Sunday, March 15, 2020. Born June 15, 1940 in Johnstown, son of Andrew and Veronica (Blasko) Jedrzejek. Preceded in death by parents; daughter-in-law, Dana Jedrzejek; and sisters, Sue Beyer and Pat Lorditch. Survived by loving and devoted wife, of 57 years, Florence (Furnari) Jedrzejek; daughter, Lisa M. Watkins, Atlanta, GA; sons, Brian (Terri) and Shawn Jedrzejek, both of Johnstown; Grandchildren, Sophia Rose Jedrzejek and Brett Jedrzejek. A brother of Carol Danko, Becky Petrosky and Bonnie Kapp. John was devoted to his church, St. Therese, and volunteered for many church functions, especially the Pierogi Project, Alter server for funerals, and Eucharist Minister. He faithfully prayed the rosary every day. John graduated from the Greater Johnstown High School Class of 1958. He served proudly in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam War, where he was stationed in Tripoli and Libya. John went on to graduate from U.P.J. in 1975, earning a Bachelor of Arts. In 1978 he received his masters degree from St. Francis University in Industrial Relations. John founded and organized the GJHS Trojan Hockey Program in 1981 and was business manager for 20 years, along with his good friend Matt Wincer. Retired from Bethlehem Steel and Johnstown America Corp with over 38 years combined. He did prison ministry, worked with Windber Hospice and St. Vincent DePaul Society and Saturday’s Kitchen. A former G.J.S.D. school board member for 8 years. He recently joined the Knights of Columbus Council 10409 at St. Therese. Due to limitations during the U.S. pandemic, private viewing and funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family.
