John C. "Sonny" Mizak

MIZAK – John C. Jr. “Sonny”, 87, of Johnstown, died August 6, 2024, at Hilltop Heights Health and Rehabilitation Center. Born September 24, 1936, in Johnstown the son of John C., Sr. and Elizabeth (Mayher) Mizak. Preceded in death by his parents, and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. He is survived by brother, Ronald, married to Virginia (Madej) Mizak, Wadsworth, OH; and nieces: Melinda (Mizak) married to William Hazel, Virginia Beach; and Jennifer (Mizak) married to Pedro Ramirez and their children Elizabeth, Justin, and Andrew, Chicago.  Sonny was a 1954 graduate of Bishop McCort High School and a graduate of Tarkio College, Missouri. He was a US Army veteran serving two years at Ft. Sam Houston, TX. Sonny was employed by Bethlehem Steel and later retired from Dental Care Associates where he was a dental technician. He was a devoted son, brother that was a great friend, mentor and understanding uncle with a great sense of humor.  He enjoyed family comic TV, being an amateur magician, movies and he stayed healthy by body building.  John ran a good race and reached the finish line like a hero.  God bless you Sonny, thank you, your family and friends will miss you. A special thank you to cousins Patricia and Martin Nadorlik who helped John during his extensive illness. There will be no viewing for John however, family and friends are invited to attend a funeral Mass 11 a.m. Thursday at Visitation BVM Catholic Church, Fr. Lenoard Voytek officiating. Committal will take place at Grandview Cemetery.
