John Patrick Simmons

SIMMONS – John Patrick, 78, of Brownstown, died February 3, 2020, at his home. Born March 3, 1941, in Johnstown the son of Harry M. and Kathyrn (Mahaffey) Simmons. Preceded in death by his parents. Survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Mary Katherine (Bouch) Simmons; children: Jean Marie, wife of Robert Leise, VA; James Daniel, married to Theresa (Diggs) Simmons; and Sean Simmons; grandchildren: Caitlin and Daniel John Leise; Kassie and Aaron Simmons; and Cade Simmons; sister, Kathleen, wife of John Kurchak; and nephews, John, Jr., and Christopher Kurchak. John was a member of St. Michael Catholic Church. He was retired from the Conemaugh and Blacklick Railroad where he finished his career as an engineer. John was a US Navy veteran of Vietnam and Army National Guard veteran of Desert Storm. He was also an avid hunter and fisherman.  At John’s request there will be no visitation.  Family and friends will be received from 9:30 a.m. until time of funeral Mass at 10 a.m. Saturday, February 22nd at St. Michael of the Archangel Catholic Church, 180 Gilbert Street, Johnstown, PA 15906, the Very Rev. Mark S. Begly, V.F. Committal will be held at Grandview Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Interim Hospice, 322 Warren Street Suite 220, Johnstown, PA 15905, in memory of Mr. Simmons.
