KUPRES – John “Coop”, 62, of Johnstown, passed away August 14, 2021. Born May 31, 1959, in Charlottesville, VA the son of Thomas J. and Rosemarie “Rosie” (Stanko) Kupres. Preceded in death by his parents. Survived by a sister, Maryanne Kupres of Panama City, FL. John graduated from Bishop McCort High School in 1977. He then volunteered for the United States Navy. After boot camp John attended the Naval Nuclear Power Training program as a staff instructor at the Noles Atomic Power laboratory in Balston Spa, New York. After his duties in Balston Spa John was assigned to the USS California CGN-36, where he would sail around the world as a Nuclear Power Machinist Mate. John was a true patriot and so proud to serve his country. When John returned home after his years in the Navy he accepted a position with Johnson Controls in New York state. John had an incredible love for family and friends and it was this that brought him back to Johnstown. In most recent years John worked for Kongsberg Defense Company. John’s position with Kongsberg would take him full circle to the traveling life he loved. John would travel with Kongsberg to Norway, England, Hawaii and many other military bases in the U.S. Prior to working at Kongsberg, John graduated from the University of Pittsburgh as a Mechanical Engineer leading him to work there. John was an avid sports fan especially for the Steelers, Pirates and Penguins. He enjoyed camping, fishing and hunting. He was a Disabled American Veteran and was dedicated to his faith, family and country. Member of the former St. Stephen’s Catholic Church and member of Resurrection Parish, where Funeral Mass will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, the Rev. George Gulash officiating. Friends received Saturday from 10 a.m. until time of Transfer Prayers at the Francis G. Ozog Funeral Home Inc., 710 Broad Street. Committal will follow at Grandview Cemetery.
