FURMAN – Josephine M., 96, of Johnstown, passed away September 23, 2021, at home surrounded by her loving children. Born August 21, 1925, in Johnstown to John and Mary (Korchnak) Varmecky. Preceded in death by parents; husband Henry J. Furman; brothers, Frank, John, William and Edward Varmecky; and sisters, Margaret Gorbar and Mary Kolson. Survived by children: Carol Benford, Martin Furman, June (Frank) Janakovic, Jane (Tim) Henderson, and Antoinette (Dave) Steinbring; grandchildren Matthew and Paul Benford; and great-grandchildren Emery and Preston Benford. Sister of Regina Delic. Also survived by brothers and sisters-in-law, Louis, Leona, Ann Marie Furman, and Edward (Mary Claire) Furman; sisters-in-law, Stella Varmecky, Blanche Varmecky, Angela Furman; special little friends, Jack, Laurel and Charlotte Janakovic; and numerous nieces and nephews. Josephine was a 1943 graduate of Johnstown High School. She was a member of the St. Casimir Ladies Guild where she served as President for many years. She was co-proprietor of Henry’s Tavern, Lower Yoder Township. She was employed at Mercy Hospital in the Central Supply Department and later volunteered as a patient transport. Josephine was a life-long member of St. Stephen’s and St. Casimir Churches and is currently a member of Resurrection Roman Catholic Church. She was a loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Friends will be received Sunday from 3-7 p.m. at the Francis G. Ozog Funeral Home, Inc., 710 Broad Street. Funeral Mass will be held 10:00 a.m. Monday at Resurrection Parish, Fr. George M. Gulash officiating. Committal will follow at St. Casimir Cemetery. The Family would like to thank the staffs of Aspire Health Care and Windber Hospice.
