MIHALIC (GABODA) – Kathleen (Kalina), of Johnstown, passed away peacefully in her sleep at 101 years old on September 2, 2021, at St. Elizabeth’s Rehabilitation & Nursing Center in Baltimore MD. Born March 14, 1920, in Vel’ky Loucky, Czechoslovakia (now Ukraine) to John Sr. and Kalina (Balog) Gaboda. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Louis Joseph; children, Louis Nicholas (J.C.) and Victor; siblings Irene, George, Maryann, Steve, Peter, Janet, Joseph & Michael. Survived by her children Brenda of Harrisburg, PA; Timothy of Seward, PA; Raymond of Windber, PA; and Candace and Camille, both of Baltimore, MD; siblings, John Jr. of Mineral Point, PA, and William, of Sumter, SC; 10 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. At the age of 14, she moved to New York City, NY, where she worked cleaning houses until she was 21, at which time she moved to Johnstown and worked as a waitress. Kathleen wed Louis J. Mihalic on July 14, 1947, and the couple was married for 49 years until Louis’ death in 1998. During her years in Johnstown, Kathleen worked at Bali Bra and was a loving mother to her seven children. Kathleen was an active member and belong to the Christian Mothers at St. Therese Catholic Church. In lieu of flowers, she requested donations to the St. Therese’s Renovation Fund. Visitation will be at Francis G. Ozog Funeral Home, 710 Broad Street, Johnstown, PA on Tuesday, September 7, 2021, from 5 PM to 8 PM and on Wednesday morning, September 8th at 8:30 AM, followed by a church service at 10 AM at St. Therese Catholic Church, 536 Decker Ave. Johnstown, PA. 15906.
