Obituary

ORAVETZ- Larry W., 75, of Johnstown, passed away August 2, 2023, at Windber Hospice after a courageous battle at home for 5 years with cancer. Born April 7, 1948, the son of John “Archie” and Margaret (Kohan) Oravetz who preceded him in death. Larry is the last surviving member of his immediate family. He is survived by cousin, Rita Kissel; special friends Jack, Sue, Chris, Matt (Larry’s Godson) Vince along with Frank, Nick, Muff, Jim, Tom, Lou and numerous friends. Larry graduated from Greater Johnstown Senior Highs School in 1966. After high school Larry went to work at Bethlehem Steel where he worked for 28 years at the Rolling Mills and then the Coke Plant as a Lid Sealer. Larry served in the Army from 1967 to 1969 as an E-5 where he supplied parts for helicopters, and he received the National Defense Service Medal for his service in the Vietnam War. Larry was a lifetime member of the SES club. A private visitation will take place at Larry’s request. A Funeral Mass will take place at St. Mary Byzantine Church Saturday, August 12, 2023, at 10:00 A.M., Msgr. Balta, all are welcomed. Committal will follow at Grandview Cemetery, where military honors will take place from the VFW Post 155. A heartfelt thank you to Windber Hospice for their care. Rest in peace thy good and faithful servant. You will be missed by so many.
