SEARLE - Larry A., 77; Johnstown, passed away on December 2, 2024. Born January 6, 1947 in Johnstown, son of the late Wilbur and Leona (Plummer) Searle. Survived by loving wife of 52 years, Carol (Klotz) Searle of Johnstown; and children, Michelle married to Fred Kim, Frederick, MD; Rebecca married to Curt Palmer, Bluffton, SC; and Michael Searle and wife Cheryl, Northern Cambria, PA. Also survived by grandchildren, Damian Searle, Elyzabeth and Ian Palmer; and step-grandchildren, David (JP) and Mia Kim, and Lily Jeffries. A brother of Don Searle and wife Marty of Butler, PA; niece, Renee and husband Michael Uram and nephew, Justin Searle and wife Kelly, aunt, Jordean Geist of Johnstown, PA; and numerous cousins. An U.S. Army Veteran serving during the Vietnam War. 38 year employee for PENELEC and Retired instructor for nuclear power technicians, for Florida Power and Light. He was a member of the Elks Club in Geistown, Ferndale Sportsman’s and Moss Creek Rod and Gun Club. He was a dedicated member of the V.F.W. Post 155 where he proudly served on the Ritual Team. Proud supporter of the WHHS Band Boosters from 1990-1996. Larry’s greatest joy came from watching his children in their activities. You could always find him in the stands of the marching band and color guard shows, musicals, BMX races and choral concerts. Usually with a giant camcorder on his shoulder. He loved music, it was in his soul, and he has passed his gift down the generations. He taught his children and grandchildren to respect and honor our military, and made sure they all knew freedom wasn’t free. If he saw you in a “Veteran” hat or jacket, you were sure to get a firm handshake and a heartfelt, teary eyed “thank you for your service”. His other passions included plowing through an open field on a snowmobile, in the freshly fallen snow, with one of his kids delightfully squealing and holding onto him for dear life, as he shouted “lean with me!” ; cruising down a back road or parading through Thunder in The Valley on his Harley, walking in the woods of North Fork, stopping by the abandoned cemetery to pay his respects, reading everything he could about history and the civil war, and he especially enjoyed weekend dancing with his beloved wife at the VFW. At his request, a private burial will be held for the immediate family, however friends are welcomed to join the family for a Celebration of Life Open House on Saturday, December 14, from 12:30 to 3:00p.m. at the Boulevard Grill in the Speakeasy Room. Donations are to be directed to the V.F.W. Post 155 Honor Guard via check at 651 Lamberd Ave. Johnstown, PA 15904 or online at vfw.org in honor of and in memory of Larry Searle.
