Lawrence Tursic Obituary

TURSIC - Lawrence E., “Ed” 85; Johnstown, passed away on December 31, 2024 at his home.  Born February 2, 1939 in Johnstown, son of Lawrence and Anna (Karan) Tursic.  Preceded in death by parents; brother, Ronald J.; sisters, Dorothy Fink and husband Ben; Elizabeth "Betty" Skedel and husband Louis Jr. “Red”; Marie Kotar and husband Ed; brother-in-law, Alfred S. Turjan and nephew, Ben Fink Jr.  Survived by sisters, Janet Turjan of Johnstown; Margaret Pipan and husband Stephen, of Johnstown; many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.  Retired teacher, for 31 years, with the Greater Johnstown School District, where he was part of the GJHS Ski Club where he planned many trips including two groups to Slovenia and Austria.  He was a graduate of the former Franklin High School, Class of 1958. An Education Major graduate of Slippery Rock University, Class of 1962 and member of the Slippery Rock University Alumni Association and the Slippery Rock Foundation.  He was former president of the Greater Johnstown Teachers Association and District Representative of the P.S.E.A.  Formerly retired Independent Trucker and member of the Teamsters Local 407.  A member of the SNPJ Lodge 749; NRA; Rails to Trails, Appalachian Trail, Western PA and Ocean Conservancies; Life member of the National Parks Association, Gettysburg Foundation, Wildlife Association, Slovene Heritage Association of Western, PA, and Polkafest Slovene Sponsor.  Ed was a world traveler, and enjoyed trips to Europe, most of the United States and Caribbean Islands.   He is a member of Saints Gregory and Barnabas Parish. Friends and family are asked to attend Funeral Mass, 10:00 a.m. Saturday, January 11, 2025 at St Gregory Church on Boltz Street, the Rev. Callistus I. Elue, Pastor.  Committal will take place at Grandview Cemetery.  Friends received Friday January 10, 2024 from 2 to 8 p.m. at the Francis G. Ozog Funeral Home Inc., Broad Street.  In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Saints Gregory and Barnabas Parish in memory of Ed Tursic.  Condolences may be sent at fgozogfuneralhome.com
