VOLK - Leonard M. Sr, of Williamsburg, VA and formerly of Johnstown and Hollsopple, PA, entered into his eternal life June 5, 2020. He passed peacefully in his sleep at home surrounded by his loving family. He was born in June 1937 in Windber, PA to Cecilia (Kroll) and Michael J. Volk. He was the beloved husband of Elsie J. (Studniary) Volk, and the father of Michael B. Volk (spouse Connie) of Mechanicsburg, PA, Corinne R. “Cory” Hall (spouse Verlan) of Mechanicsville, VA, and Leonard M. Volk, Jr., of Williamsburg, VA. He is also survived by grandchildren Tomas Volk, Joseph Volk (spouse Kaylene), Miriam Volk, Abigail Volk, Leah Volk, Kelsey Hall and 2LT Steven Hall. He is the brother of Connie Mock (spouse Bill) of Johnstown, PA. He was preceded in death by his parents, an infant sister and infant son. He was a graduate of Windber High School, Indiana State Teachers College (BA) and of the University of Scranton (MA). He also completed post graduate work at the University of Pittsburgh. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and of the Pennsylvania State Educator’s Association. He was employed by Ferndale Area School District, for many years, serving as Band Director, Middle School Principal, Business Office Administrator and Principal of Ferndale High School. After retirement from Ferndale, he was employed and retired from Mount Aloysius College. Leonard also worked with the Johnstown Alternative Community Resource Program (ACRP). Though he was an educator and administrator, music was his passion. He was an exceptional saxophone and clarinet player and enjoyed playing with many other musicians in the Johnstown area. Friends received from noon until 8:00 p.m., Friday, June 12, at the Francis G. Ozog Funeral Home Inc., 710 Broad Street, Johnstown, PA, 15906. Funeral mass to celebrate his life will be held at 9:00 a.m., Saturday, June 13, at Saint Andrews Catholic Church, 1621 Ferndale Avenue, Johnstown, PA, 15905, the Rev. Peter Crowe. Committal will take place at St. John Cantius Cemetery in Windber. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you perform a random act of kindness for someone in need, just as Leonard would. Also, a scholarship will be established in his name at Mount Aloysius College for a graduate of Ferndale High School.
