Linda C. (Johnson) Gilroy/Palmer, 72, of Johnstown passed away in the comfort of her home, surrounded by her loving family on Monday, April 10, 2023.
Linda was born November 16, 1950 in Johnstown to Frank and Eva (Visnich) Johnson. A 1968 graduate of Johnstown High, after graduation she completed studies at Cambria-Rowe Business School. A lifelong learner Linda later returned to academic life, and graduated in 1992 from The University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown with her B.A. degree in Communications-Theater.
Since a young age Linda was a voracious reader and could lose herself for hours in a book. She especially loved to read under the shade of the trees.
She had a great appreciation of the arts and a passion for travel that brought her to visit various venues near and far around the world. When she was not home expressing her own talents creating an environment that reflected the joy of the current season or holiday, her favorite destination was the New Jersey shore and the many memories created vacationing with her family.
In her professional life Linda gravitated to positions where she helped others. She assisted members of the community by educating people about programs & resources available and helped them navigate their healthcare options. She was especially proud of her work enrolling children and families in Pennsylvania’s Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP). Linda touched many lives and made many dear friends along the way near and far. She shared countless laughs with her Highmark, Beginnings, and Aetna colleagues.
Linda was an active member of St. Nicholas Serbian Orthodox Church. She sang in the choir for many years and was a member of the Circle of Serbian sisters.
Linda’s fierce spirit was highlighted during her courageous battle against both breast and ovarian cancers. The support and encouragement of her friends and family was paramount during this time.
The family wishes to extend our deepest gratitude to Linda’s care team led by Dr. Ibrahim Sbeitan at the Conemaugh Memorial Hospital Oncology Department for their compassionate care as well as Windber Hospice for their unwavering support and guidance in Linda’s final days.
