HELSEL – Lois Fay, 87, of Johnstown, passed away April 7, 2026, at Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center. Born July 17, 1938, in Johnstown, the daughter of James N. and Alma Fay (Bowser) Betts. Preceded in death by parents; husband, Thomas B. Helsel; son, John B. Helsel, brother, Marlin Betts; and sisters, Jane Arford and Joan Wagner. Survived by loving daughter, Susan married to Jack Vince; grandsons, Chris (Haley) Vince, who are expecting Lois’s first great-granddaughter due in July, and Matt Vince (Erin Engelbracht); brother, Edward (Merle) Betts; and sister, Anna Grace Langsdale. Lois graduated from United High School. She enjoyed making homemade candies, baking, sewing, and canning. Lois was an avid golfer and was a member of the Pleasant Valley Women’s Golf League. She also loved traveling with her husband. Lois was a part of the Brownstown Women’s Auxiliary Club, and also enjoyed working the polls at the Brownstown Fire Hall. Lois was a very active member of Morrellville Church of the Brethren for many years and enjoyed helping bake for their activities. The family would like to especially thank the staff at Forest Hills Personal Care Home for the care and love they provided Lois over the last 3 and a half years, as well as Winder Woods and the ICU and Palliative Care units at Conemaugh Memorial Hospital for their recent and excellent care. Lois was a loving mother, grandmother, and sister. She will truly be missed by many. Friends will be received Thursday April 9, 2026, from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Francis G. Ozog Funeral Home Inc. Funeral Service will be held on Friday, April 10, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at the Morrellville Church of the Brethren (Chandler Avenue), Pastor Dan Becker. Committal will follow at Grandview Cemetery.
