Margaret Brlansky Obituary

BRLANSKY - Margaret Cecelia, 96; Johnstown, passed away on December 25, 2025.  Born November 22, 1929 in Johnstown, daughter of Joseph and Julia (Reha) Brlansky.  Preceded in death by parents; brothers, Stephen, Joseph, John “Jack”, and Edward Brlansky; and sisters, Anne Houston and Mary Page.  Survived by sister in-law, Patsy Brlansky; Niece and Caregiver, Kathy Mavrodis Brlansky; and her children, Katerina (Danny Mock) and Nicholas (Kayla Belsky). Also survived by nieces and nephews: Peggy (Denny) Vogal, Judy Buckler, Kathy Shanabrook, Tom Brlansky, Stephen Brlansky, Scott (Kim) Brlansky, Shelly George, Valerie (Jack)  Bauer, Lisa Houston, Mark Houston, Sharon Houston, Nancy Houston, Kenny (Roseanne) Page, Jim Page, Joe (Carla) Page, Debbie (Wayne) Callihan, Jeff (Amy) Brlansky, Kathy Mavrodis Brlansky, Melissa (Steve) Zukus, great nieces and nephews: McKenzie & Ethan Zukus, Becca & Nate Linn, and several more nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews that were out of town. Graduated in 1948 from Johnstown Catholic High School (Bishop McCort) where she enjoyed playing volleyball and softball. From September 1948 - June 1970 she was a Sister of St. Joseph in Baden, PA and her name as a sister was, “Str. Martin de pomme Brlansky.” Margaret was the matriarch of her family, left the convent to come home and tend to her elderly parents. She graduated from Mt. Mercy College now called Carlowe College and taught elementary school in: Holy Name School in Duquesne, St. James in Sewickly, St. Richards in the Hill District, Holy Rosary in Bellview,  Assumption, St. Canisius in the South Side, and St. Catherine's in Beechwood.  Worked at St. Andrews Catholic School as a 1st grade teacher. After the passing of her parents she then moved to the sisters quarters and continued teaching at Saint Andrews’.  She served as a housekeeper and chef for Monsignor Fleming after retiring from teaching in 1994. She joined the foster grandparent program of Cambria County where she worked in several daycares in the Johnstown area, the last of which was Mom's House on Franklin Street, where she took great pleasure in playing and caring for the infants until her retirement in 2018 at 89 years old.  A member of St. John Gualbert Cathedral, where Funeral Mass will be held 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, December 30, 2025, the Very Rev. Matthew Baum. Committal will follow at St. Joseph Mausoleum.  Friends received Monday, December 29, 2025 from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Francis G.
