Mary Ann (Chappie) Hanak

HANAK – Mary Ann (Chappie) “Mamie” 94, of Johnstown, died June 16, 2025, at Arbutus Park Manor. Born February 12, 1931, in the Cambria City section of Johnstown, daughter of Pete and Mary (Kesslak) Chappie. Preceded in death by parents, husband of 62 years Joseph Hanak, brothers Daniel and Edward; sisters, Irene Mayer, Pauline Mindish, Olga Kisiel and Betty Antosh. Survived by sons Donald of Johnstown, PA and David of Phoenix, AZ; granddaughters, Robin Hanak and husband Jermey Bowser of Abilene, TX; Rebecca and husband Bryce Jenkins of Hobbs, NM; great grandchildren Kaylynn Zipfel, Devon Hanak and Paige Jenkins. Also survived by sister, Leona Mihalaki of Mechanicsburgh, PA; sister-in-law MaryAnn (Molchany) Chappie of Johnstown, and Irene (Hanak) Bayconish of River Vale, NJ as well as many nieces and nephews. Mamie was a 1949 graduate of Johnstown High School and worked full or part-time at Gearhart’s Furniture, Riverside Market, JC Penny and Piro Draperies. Member of Christ the Saviour Cathedral. Mamie enjoyed her home in Oakland, travelling, craftwork, casino trips with friends and mentally challenging games on her iPad. She was always there for her immediate and extended family members, giving of her time and support as she believed; “That is what you do”. Funeral service will take place on Monday. June 23, 2025, at 10:00 A.M. at Christ the Saviour Cathedral, The Very Rev, Protopresbyter Robert Buczak. Interment, Grandview Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Mary’s memory to Christ the Saviour Cathedral. No viewing or visitation, friends will still be received before the funeral service at Christ the Saviour Cathedral from 9:00 A.M. to 10:00 A.M. Arrangements provided by the Francis G.
