Matthew J. Wincer Sr.

WINCER - Matthew J., Sr., 72; Johnstown, passed away on August 24, 2020 at Conemaugh Hospital.  Born April 1, 1948 in Johnstown, son of James Sr. and Anna (Tarby) Wincer.  Preceded in death by parents; loving wife, Lydia A. (Burke) Wincer; son, Brian K. Wincer; brother, James M. Wincer Jr., and his best hockey friend and co-founder of Johnstown High School Trojan Hockey, John Jedrzejek.   Survived by sons, Matthew J. Jr. married to the former Melissa Thomas, and Michael A. Wincer, both of Johnstown; daughter-in-law, Carolyn (Roberts) Wincer, Renfrew, PA.  Also survived by grandchildren, Apryl, Branden, Brenna, Cameron and Cole Wincer.  A brother of Mary Ann Hildebrand, Mt. Airy, MD; sister-in-law, Chitra Wincer, Las Vegas, NV; numerous nieces and nephews; and best friend, Joe “Hippy” Hipp.  He was retired employee for the city of Johnstown.  Mr. Wincer was an integral factor in many hockey organizations and leagues throughout Johnstown; including Greater Johnstown High School Hockey, co founder, past president, coach and board member, CCSHL, Thanksgiving Hockey Tournament creator and director; Johnstown Warriors travel hockey, Johnstown Chiefs souvenir table operator; and many more hockey programs.  He enjoyed many road trips, in his van, to hockey games and tournaments with so many players and families and trips to Lancaster with shopping at Roots and Green Dragon.  He also enjoyed going to the casino’s.  He never passed up a good meal.   Friends will be received on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Francis G. Ozog Funeral Home Inc., Broad Street.  Funeral Mass will be held 10:00 a.m. Friday at St. Benedict Catholic Church.
