Michael Brisko, Jr. Obituary

BRISKO – Michael J., Jr., 94, of Johnstown died August 2, 2018, at LaurelWood Care Center. Born July 9, 1924, in Johnstown the son of Michael, Sr. and Verna (Stefan) Brisko. Preceded in death by his parents; infant daughter, Carol Denise; sisters: Mary Baker, Ann Woznak, and Verna Smajda; brothers: Joseph and John Brisko; and daughter-in-law, Dorothy (Felosky) Brisko. He is survived by his loving wife of 70 years, Sylvia (Uzelac) Brisko who he married on June 26, 1948; children: Debbie, married to Ed Zapola; Michael, married to Lori (Martin); and David, and friend Michelle Paul; grandchildren: Brian, Denise, Beth, Zak, Jade, Nick, Alexis, and Alex; and great-grandchildren: Logan, Madison, and Kadence. Michael was a US Army Veteran of WWII serving in the European Theatre. A member of the former St. Stephen’s Catholic Church where he was a member of the Holy Name society and currently a member of Resurrection Parish. He was retired from Bethlehem Steel Corp with 40 years’ service and was a member of the United Steel Workers local 2644. Mike loved baseball. He played for the Minersville PNA; and for many years coached at St. Therese Baseball league where he formed the St. Stephen’s Mets who later won the league championship. He was an avid fan of the New York Yankees and the Pittsburgh Pirates. Mike was also a member of the CFU; Slovak Band Hall; and Catholic War Vets local 954 on Chestnut Street. He was also an avid player of the Pennsylvania Lottery. He will be remembered as a kind and loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend. The most important things for Mike were Faith, Family and Friends. Friends will be received from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Sunday at the Francis G. Ozog Funeral Home, Inc., 710 Broad Street where vigil service will be held. Funeral Mass will be held 10 a.m. Monday at Resurrection Parish, Fr. George Gulash officiating. Committal at Grandview Cemetery with military honors by Menoher Post 155 VFW Honor Guard. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to a charity of your choice in honor and memory of Mike.
