Patricia Sweeney (Kant) Obituary

SWEENEY - Patricia Ann (Kant), 84; died peacefully in her sleep on December 26, 2021 at Windber Hospice, after a two year battle with pancreatic cancer and other issues that she fought off bravely and with grace.  Born October 9, 1937 to Charles and Phoebe (Croft) Kant.  Preceded in death by her parents; her aunt, Antoinette (Kant) Melvin, who was a special part of her life; as well as other members of the Kant, Croft and Sweeney families.  Patricia married Robert Leo Sweeney, October 2, 1954 and the couple just celebrated their 67th wedding anniversary.  Pat is survived by her husband, Bob; and three children  daughter, Karen Marie Sweeney, Johnstown; son, Charles Robert Sweeney and his wife, Karen Ann (Kalenak), Cleveland, OH and their two children, Meghan Lynn Sweeney-Walker and who is expecting, married to Thomas Walker of Cleveland, OH; and Matthew Kyle Sweeney and Katie Koontz, of Findley, OH; and daughter, Cynthia Ann (Sweeney) James, married to Louis “Randy” James of Johnstown and their three children, Shawn Louis James and wife Chrystal (Witkowski) and their two children, Axel and Austin; Major Chad Robert James USAF and wife Shawna (Hixson), stationed in Salt Lake City and their daughter Ella Mae; and Nathan Randall James and Nicollette Harper of Johnstown.  Pat was grateful and felt blessed she had five grandchildren and three great grandchildren. She was proud of her grandchildren’s accomplishments and loved that Shawn served in the U.S. Coast Guard and that Chad is still serving in the U.S. Air Force as a fighter pilot. A special thanks to Jacque Calyer, a personal health aide, who took wonderful care of Pat over the last year.  And to all the doctors, nurses and aides at Windber Hospice who cared for Pat.  Pat was a lifelong resident of Daisytown and still lived with Bob in her childhood home built by her grandfather, Joseph Kant in 1887.  She loved ceramics, shopping and going to the beach. She will be missed by family and friends. She attended St. Gregory’s Catholic Church, in Daisytown, where Funeral Mass will be held 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, the Rev. Callistus I. Elue. Committal will follow at Grandview Cemetery.  Friends received Tuesday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Francis G. Ozog Funeral Home Inc., Broad Street.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Windber Hospice in her memory.  Condolences may be sent at fgozogfuneralhome.com
