Philip J. Demo

Philip J. Demo, 95, of Johnstown, Pennsylvania, passed away peacefully at home on July 31, 2026. Born on October 17, 1930, he was the beloved son of the late John and Mary Demo.

A lifelong Johnstown resident, Philip graduated from Johnstown High School. He proudly served in the United States Army from 1952 to 1954. Upon returning home, he began a long career as a telephone repairman, serving the community for more than 40 years with Verizon (and its predecessor companies) until his retirement in 1996.

Philip was a man of discipline and vitality. He remained passionate about physical fitness throughout his life, continuing to exercise until just weeks before his passing.

He built a beautiful home for his family with the help of his father-in-law, Stephen Sakmar, and took great pride in it. 

Above all, Philip was devoted to his family. He was proud of his children and grandchildren and cherished the time spent with them.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Josephine M. Demo, and his parents.

Surviving are his sister, Teresa Weaver; his five children, Mark (Therese), Matthew (Anita), John (Linda), Luke (Anna Marie), and Phyllis (Scott); nine grandchildren, Lucy (James), Mary, Sean, Jude, Connor, Dylan, Michelangelo, Isabella and Luke; and one great-granddaughter, Lily.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Our Mother of Sorrows Church in Westmont on Friday, August 7, 2026, at 10:00 a.m., Very Rev. Mark S. Begly, VF. There will be no public viewing. Committal will follow at St. Francis Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Holy Family Home, operated by the Little Sisters of the Poor in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
