MIZAK – Rita M., 96, of Johnstown, died January 6, 2024, at home surrounded by family. Born August 22, 1927, in Johnstown she was the daughter of John and Margaret (Hannur) Ditko. She is preceded in death by parents; husband James T. Mizak; brothers, John Ditko, Donald Ditko, and Kenneth Ditko; Sisters-in-law, Dorothy (Sakmar) Ditko, and Caroline (Mateljian) Ditko. Rita was the last surviving member of her immediate family. She is Survived by son, James T. Mizak II (Kimberly Bassett); daughters, Barbara A. Mull (G. Robert Mull), and Christine M. Dayton; grandchildren, Nathan, and Jamie Lee (Leo Pivirotto); and Great-grandchildren, Ayva Jade, Emma Rose, and Henry James, sister-in-law, Lillian (Obarsky) Ditko; favorite niece Jacqueline (Ditko) Carpenter who enjoyed spending quality time with Rita and caring for her. Also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Rita graduated from Johnstown High in 1945. She worked as a cashier at A&P. At the age of 18 Rita began to work at the local YWCA and continued working there for 76 years. Rita dedicated many hours teaching people in the community to swim, and socializing with the community of the YWCA. Rita also enjoyed spending time in her garden, bird watching, and truly enjoyed being outdoors. A visitation will be held Wednesday, January 10, 2024, from 5pm to 7pm at the Francis G. Ozog Funeral Home Inc. A visitation will also be held Thursday, January 11, 2024, from 10am to 11am. Funeral service will follow at 11am at the Francis G. Ozog Funeral Home Inc, Rev. Leonard E. Voytek. Committal will follow at Grandview Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donation can be made in Rita’s memory to the YWCA at www.parsonmywca.wixsite.com/ywcajohnstown.
