Obituary

Mrs. Sophie Ann Mulvehill, 92, of Johnstown, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family September 4, 2023. Born March 21, 1931, in Johnstown, she was the daughter of the late George and Anna (Gill) Tracz (Tracy) of Johnstown. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 50 years Vincent Lawrence Mulvehill who passed away August 20, 2003 and grandson Jason Mulvehill.

Sophie is survived by four loving children: John and his wife Margaret (Peggy) of Lancaster, Pa; Patrick and his wife Terri of Johnstown; James and his wife Stephanie of Johnstown; and Paul and his wife Hilory of Johnstown. She is also survived by seven grandchildren: Shannon Phillips, Sarah Fuehrer, Clair Mulvehill, Adam Mulvehill and his wife Mindy, Joshua Mulvehill and his wife Ashly, Benjamin Mulvehill and his wife Amanda, and Elliott Mulvehill; and ten great grandchildren: Paton and Rylee Pryce, Bella Smith, Nova and Alora Fuehrer, Kristopher and Ayden Mulvehill, Isaac Gregorchik, and Allie and Landon Mulvehill. Also surviving is her brother Joseph and his wife Joann and her sister-in-law Delores McCreery, of Johnstown and numerous nieces and nephews.

Sophie was a member of St. Casimir’s and later Resurrection Catholic Churches in Johnstown since 1931. She helped make pierogis and other ethnic dishes for church functions for many years. Sophie worked for several businesses in Johnstown to include Penn Furniture where she met Vincent, Embassy Movie Theater, and Slick Insurance Company. Sophie also volunteered at Tax Counseling for the Elderly for several years where she was recognized for putting in more than 3,000 hours filling out  tax returns for elderly and low-income residents at the Johnstown senior center.

She enjoyed vacation trips to such places as Washington D.C., Niagara Falls, Canada, and Virginia Beach with her husband and family. She loved to cook and enjoyed hosting Christmas diners as well as other family gatherings in her home preparing various ethnic dishes.

She was a very loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. Our family would like to express what a joy it was to have such a beautiful spirit, grace our family. Her love for God and her family were truly endless. Our loss is a little less knowing that she can now rest in peace with dad and that her light will be shining down on us from heaven. She was an inspiration and was very much loved. We will forever miss you Mom. We love you.

A special thank you goes out to Stephanie Davis RN (Steph the nurse) from ProMedica Hospice. Her devotion as our mother's nurse was truly exceptional.

Viewing will be held at Francis Ozog Funeral home on Wednesday 9/6/2023 from 3pm to 7 pm. The funeral mass will be held Thursday at 10:00 am at Resurrection Church.
