Sophie was a member of St. Casimir’s and later Resurrection Catholic Churches in Johnstown since 1931. She helped make pierogis and other ethnic dishes for church functions for many years. Sophie worked for several businesses in Johnstown to include Penn Furniture where she met Vincent, Embassy Movie Theater, and Slick Insurance Company. Sophie also volunteered at Tax Counseling for the Elderly for several years where she was recognized for putting in more than 3,000 hours filling out tax returns for elderly and low-income residents at the Johnstown senior center.
She enjoyed vacation trips to such places as Washington D.C., Niagara Falls, Canada, and Virginia Beach with her husband and family. She loved to cook and enjoyed hosting Christmas diners as well as other family gatherings in her home preparing various ethnic dishes.
She was a very loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. Our family would like to express what a joy it was to have such a beautiful spirit, grace our family. Her love for God and her family were truly endless. Our loss is a little less knowing that she can now rest in peace with dad and that her light will be shining down on us from heaven. She was an inspiration and was very much loved. We will forever miss you Mom. We love you.
A special thank you goes out to Stephanie Davis RN (Steph the nurse) from ProMedica Hospice. Her devotion as our mother's nurse was truly exceptional.
Viewing will be held at Francis Ozog Funeral home on Wednesday 9/6/2023 from 3pm to 7 pm. The funeral mass will be held Thursday at 10:00 am at Resurrection Church.
