Thomas "Tom" W. Davis

DAVIS - Thomas “Tom” W., 103 of Johnstown, PA, went to his eternal home on May 8, 2020, at the home of his daughter.  Born March 5, 1917 in Johnstown, PA to David Davis and Mae (Martin) Davis.  Last surviving member of his immediate family.  Preceded in death by his parents, his beloved wife of sixty years, Mary (Voytko) Davis, and son-in-law Mark Gregg.  Also preceded in death by his brothers, Clifford and David and sisters, Margaret Ann, Beatrice and Betty.  He is survived and will be greatly missed by his daughters, Irene and husband Gary Graham of Bethlehem, PA and Arlene Gregg of Windber, PA.  He was deeply loved by his grandchildren, Jennifer and husband James Baran of Bethlehem, PA; Jocelyn and husband Brent Shoemaker, of Dickson, TN; Alan Gregg and Meghann Gregg of Windber, PA.  Great grandchildren Cailah and Mckenna Baran of Bethlehem, PA and Jacob Davis and Logan Carter Shoemaker of Dickson, TN. Tom was a retired machinist of forty-six years from The Lower  Cambria Division of Bethlehem Steel Corporation.  He proudly served in the United States Army during peacetime in the Third Infantry Regiment, the “Old Guard”.  Prior to his death, it is believed that he held the distinction of being the oldest surviving member of the Honor Guard at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier at Arlington National Cemetery in Virginia    He later returned to again serve his country during World War II as an engineer, with rank of corporal in the 1274th Engineering Co. in the European Theater of Operations. He served with pride, love and dignity and we, his family, are so proud and thankful for his service. He enjoyed reading books on history and world and current events.  He was proud of his Welsh heritage and spent much time exploring that history also.  His relaxing time was spent doing any crossword puzzle he could find.  He was a member of the Flood City Bowman Club where he spent time perfecting the art of archery.  He enjoyed spending time with his children and their families. We will miss his humor, he was always making us laugh. He had a great love for the innocent animals God created and loved watching nature unfold around him. Tom had a huge heart and all who knew him loved him from the start.  He had a deep love for the Lord and lived his life accordingly.  When asked what his secret of longevity was, his reply was always the same, “No secret, it’s up to the good Lord”. -It is with deep sorrow and joy that we return him to his heavenly father, but we rest in the faith that we shall all be together again.  We want to thank Conemaugh Home Health for their kindness and care over the last few years and to Windber Hospice for their most recent and loving care to Tom We were blessed to have your help and he was quite taken with all of you.  Our thanks also to Pastor Daryl Penrod of Elton Zion United Methodist Church who was always there when needed most.  Your visits meant so much to Tom. Do to the Covid virus restrictions a private visitation and funeral service will be held at the Francis G. Ozog Funeral Home, Inc. with interment to follow at Grandivew Cemetery with Military Honors by VFW Menoher Post #155 Ritual Team.
