SZCZUR – Wendy M., 51, of Johnstown, passed away unexpectedly on December 26, 2025, when God welcomed her home. Born May 12, 1974, in Johnstown, she is the daughter of Deborah (Balamuta) Szczur and the late Thomas Szczur. She is survived by her daughter, Shanice Downer (Ashton); granddaughter, Aliviana Berry; brother, Thomas Szczur Jr. (Fallon); and partner, Robert O’Donnell. Everyone who came in contact with Wendy knew her love for animals ran deeply to the core of her being; she would go above and beyond to help any animal in need. Even the ones that probably should have just stayed in the wilderness, which included wild bunnies and raccoons. Wendy was a selfless person when it came to animals. Wendy also dedicated her life to being the very best grandmother she could be to her only granddaughter, Aliviana Berry. When Aliviana was born, Wendy’s life stood still. She didn’t want to be called “grandma,” as that was too old-sounding, so we agreed on the Chinese translation of “grandma,” which is “nai-nai,” and she was the best nai-nai anyone could have. Wendy touched many lives in her lifetime. Wendy is now at peace with God and all the animals she helped throughout her life. We all know that Wendy entered the gate into heaven and was bombarded by all the cats and dogs, walking hand in hand with her dad. Wendy was a loving mother, nai-nai, daughter, sister, aunt, partner and friend. She will truly be missed by many. Friends will be received on Friday, January 2, 2026, at the Francis G. Ozog Funeral Home Inc. from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. A funeral mass will be held on Saturday, January 3, 2026, at 10:00 a.m.at St. Benedict Catholic Church, Rev. David S. Peles. Committal will follow at Grandview Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in memory of Wendy to the Cambria County Humane Society at www.humanecambria.org/donate/.
