TURTURICA – Joseph, 75, of Johnstown, Pa, passed away peacefully on January 5, 2018. The public viewing will be held on Tuesday, January 9 at the Francis G. Ozog Funeral Home, Inc. from 4:00 to 8:00 PM. The funeral Mass and committal will be held Wednesday and is reserved for family members and close friends. Joe was born on Sept 20, 1942. He graduated from Johnstown Catholic High School (Bishop McCort) in 1961 before joining the Army. He continued his service with the National Guard for an additional 14 years and was honorably discharged at the rank of Staff Sergeant. He was recognized for helping the community through the Johnstown Flood of 1977. Professionally he began his career as a State Highway inspector for PenDot before joining and spending 32 years with Verizon Communications. From a community service standpoint he served for 12 years as an elected official for Lower Yoder Township in the capacity of Chairman and Police Commissioner. He also served on the Board of Directors for the Cambria County Transit Authority. He also contributed to his church as a key player in the planning and execution of the St. Therese annual festival. He is survived by his only son Joseph A. Turturica, and his wife Renee; his sister Patty Lushko and her husband John, nephews Jonathan and wife Wendy, Brian and wife Emily; former spouse Linda Mains and beloved friends Rosie Cernic and Patty Melnick. Joe is preceded in death by his parents, Joseph (Pal) and Mary Turturica.
